Ninestar infringed on HP's cartridge patent

China-based Ninestar Image Company Ltd. has acknowledged its infringement of HP’s patents for inkjet cartridges.

Under the settlement Ninestar has further agreed to stop selling the cartridges in the US and elsewhere where HP holds the relevant patent rights. They have also agreed to pay an undisclosed sum of money as compensation.

“HP is committed to defending its investments in intellectual property and will continue to vigorously pursue legal enforcement against practices that do not respect HP’s IP rights”, Stephen Nigro, senior vice president of the Inkjet and Web Services Business, Imaging and Printing Group at HP said in a statement.

This is not the first time the two companies have been involved in a legal battle over patent rights. In March 2007 HP and Ninestar reached a settlement after HP filed similar complaints about patent infringement relating to a different set of inkjet cartridges.
